Invitation for Campaign against Torture

On 26th of June 2010, we would like to invite you to join our outreach campaign for spreading the information on the issue of Torture. Tomorrow is International Day against Torture, on 10 December 1984; the text of the Convention was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. 26 June is now globally recognized as the International Day in Support of Torture Victims, in honor of the Convention.
               
As of January 2010, 146 nations are parties to the treaty, and another ten countries have signed but not ratified it. The United Nations Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment is an international human rights instrument, under the review of the United Nations that aims to prevent torture around the world.
 
So please join us today at 2.00pm; at Victory Monument to raise the voice to declare Freedom from Torture is our Fundamental Right. Being human, we mean it that in a democratic state there should be no space for any kind of torture.
 
The detail of the program is:
-          2.00pm Gathering at Victory Monument (Victory Point near by centre one), Phayathai, Bangkok
-          2.30pm Reading of Statement Paper
-          3.00pm Walk around the victory monument and distribution of Brochure, sticker and tag
 
This program is an initiative of the following organizations: the Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC), the Human Rights Lawyer Association (HRLA), the Union for Civil Liberty (UCL), the Campaign Committee for Human Rights (CCHR), the Youth Partnership for Human Rights (YPHR), the Cross Culture Foundation (CrCF), and the Foundation on Justice for Peace (WGJP). Tomorrow is the take off the campaign; this campaign will remain in swing till 26th of June 2011.
